Spring

for everything there is a season…

This past weekend traveling to see my son, it really sunk in. Spring is arriving. Oh, I am so ever grateful. Being on the verge of this season happily feels much different than last year. Unknowns will always exist, but the opportunity for “new life” - to gather as before - no longer feels so distant this spring. Hope has always remained, but now it shines just a little brighter. ⁣

⁣Whenever I need reminded of the things that are constant, such as hope, I spend time with God. A simple walk outside, marveling at the beauty of His creations, is all it takes.  Spending time with the youngest of His creations and seeing the world through their eyes also draws me closer to Him. Both can settle a soul.⁣

⁣“What does spring mean to you?” I asked a happy bunch of preschoolers the other morning. ⁣

⁣Spring is “when it’s warm,” said one child. Our warmer temperatures these days and the chance to wear shorts to school have both brought many smiles in our class.⁣

⁣“I think it is when baby animals are born,” chimed in another. Who doesn’t love the wonder and beauty of baby animals? And then, an answer that surprised me. It wasn’t simply the answer, because I love all the answers the same. They are unique and loved as each child is by me.⁣

⁣Yet, instead of an answer, this child drew me a picture without saying a word. A sweet drawing of flowers and the sun. And then, he proudly offered it and said, “It’s when the flowers grow.”⁣

⁣Spring doesn’t really need many words, as I look out my window at the buds bursting on trees and the early spring flowers blooming. As I was reminded, its beauty is best captured by the eyes.⁣

⁣Song of Solomon 2:11-12

For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.
