Wings

The gift of nature surrounds us when we sit still and wait…

What wings are to a bird and sails to a ship, so is prayer to the soul.  ~Corrie ten Boom

Indeed, they are essential...

Each morning, I am greeted to the cheerful sound of the birds.  In fact, they have taken a center stage at times.  Their greeting has prompted others to mute my microphone on a zoom call from time to time.  Whether chirping or not, each bird is reliant on its wings.  They are vital for movement as the birds search...for food...for mates...for freedom from predators.  And so for us, the necessity of prayer is not lost on us.  It serves to...nourish us...connect us as a body of Christ...deliver us from evil.

wings are to birds...

prayers are to souls...

sails are to ships...

Isn’t it peaceful watching a sailboat glide across the water?  Using a sail, a ship can move gracefully, in both calm and choppy waters.  The fabric quickly becomes the engine of the ship, as the sail harnesses the wind as power.   And so for us, our prayer life is the engine of our souls.  It brings peace through the ups and downs of our day.  Unlike the sail though, our prayers harness the power of something far mightier than wind...the power of the Holy Spirit.  Thanks be to God.

To fly as a bird....is to gracefully move.

To sail as a ship...is to not only gracefully move, but to take a voyage.

How magical it is indeed, that prayer keeps us moving forward in grace...on a voyage simply like no other.
