Moonshadow
Moonshadow
The gift of nature surrounds us when we sit still and wait…
“…leaping and hopping on a moonshadow.” When I was a teenager, I remember summers of listening to the local radio station...often until it signed off at midnight. Yes...there was a time when radio and tv stations actually when silent overnight...much like the time when nothing was open on Sundays.
.
A favorite station of mine signed off each night to the tune of 𝘔𝘰𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘸 by Cat Stevens. To this day, if I hear that song...warm memories return of feeling safely and peacefully tucked in for the night.
.
I never knew until recently, but Stevens was inspired to write 𝘔𝘰𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘸 after seeing for the first time the moon, entirely unobstructed by any artificial lights. He had glimpsed a sight so pure to him that it cast one’s shadow...his shadow...on nearby water.
.
Everyday “obstructions” can keep us from being still and noticing sights just as these. And especially if we’re found in a cycle of worry and concern about the future or the past, we are bound to miss the richness of the present...life as it is.
.
You could say we generally live with plenty of obstructions...and even a few more so in recent weeks. Yet, “distancing” has also provided a time for many to be more still. And, it’s a time where nature has taken more of a center stage and the richness of the present is evident.
.
So, on a night like this, if you are still...you too just might catch a moonshadow.
