Slow
Slow
Children remind us to take life one step at a time. Thoughts inspired by them…
Slow....
.
It’s Friday and today has felt nothing slow at all, rather the opposite. Even time spent with my class today felt rushed and even frantic at times. Ironically, I asked them what the word Slow means to them.
.
So, from a four-year-old’s perspective, Slow is “like a turtle” or maybe “a teddy bear walking slow.” Slow is definitely “not going fast.” And from a time-conscious little mind, if “you’re slow, you’re late.”
.
That’s a definite consequence of being slow and can be a costly one at times, whether it be a missed plane, missed exam, or a multitude of missed opportunities.
.
But, what about the opportunities we don’t miss because we were in fact slow? For instance, it might be the “tucked away” little spot that’s not clearly marked from the well-traveled road. Yet, we stumble upon it simply because we slowed down our pace. We noticed it.
.
In these moments, Slow can end up not being costly...but rather provide some of the richest of opportunities and moments.
.
“Be still and know that I am God...” Psalm 46:10. What greater reminder is there of the riches rewarded from slowing down?
.
So yes, on occasion, “if you’re slow, you’re late.” But, what about this as well? Let’s also not be late to learn the value of slow...
