Observe

Observe

for everything there is a season…

I’ve been thinking about the upcoming school year a lot as of late. Maybe that’s why a word prompt for writing drew me back to the classroom as well.

When I think of the word observe, I think of our five senses. I always love in my classroom when we focus on the senses - with something simple as a Hershey kiss. After we talk about the five senses, we put the lesson into action - looking at the candy in front of us, touching it as we pick it up, listening to the crinkle of paper as we unwrap the wrapper, smelling the aroma … and of course, when the children can’t wait much longer (good time to throw in the fruit of the Spirit of patience!), we taste it!

To observe something with our senses takes intention. It takes choosing to pause.

Today I’m pausing - observing - my surroundings. They’re familiar - yet somehow new when I pause.

Seeing the trees sway … listening to the wind.

Observing my senses … letting my mind slow down.

Just like that sweet Hershey kiss, the senses are a gift - one to be unwrapped and enjoyed! May your day involve a little observing.
